| Larry became a barbershopper in 1970 when he moved to Iowa City. He has served as an Assistant Director and has been Director of the chorus since 1999. After serving as director for a number of years, he has decided to retire and help coach Chad and sing tenor. In the early 70's Larry was Director of a Sweet Adelines Chorus in Williamsburg.
He began his quarteting career as tenor in the Formalities from 1971-78. The Formalities became quartet champions of the Central States District in 1973. He performed with Main Street Express from 1978-84. He was asked to join Ralston Creek Reunion, which was active from 1986-95. In 1997 he helped assemble the quartet Reckless Abandon, which includes his youngest son Chad as baritone. He has coached a number of quartets and choruses, in both S.P.E.B.S.Q.S.A. and Sweet Adelines, in the area over the years.
Over the years Larry has been an active member on the Old Capitol Chorus Board of Directors and has helped push many hot dogs at the chorus food stand at Kinnick Stadium. In 1998 Larry was awarded the Old Capitol Chorus's Barbershopper of the Year.
